Paisley holds one-shot lead in SA Open

Chasing Paisley and Grace on Sunday will be a three-man group at 12-under-par, three off the pace.

Among four contenders lying one shot further back were the first round leaders, Branden Grace of South Africa and Chase Koepka of the United States.

"I'm very happy and excited for the weekend", Saddier said after his bogey-free round.

Chris Paisley leads by a shot from home favorite Branden Grace going into the final round of the South African Open.

Young South African Jacques Kruyswijk is their nearest challenger on nine under par after a 67 and in what is his rookie season on the European Tour.

After another birdie at 13, the Frenchman claimed three in a row from 15 to record the lowest score this week in the first European Tour event of the year. The 31-year-old Englishman, seeking his first European Tour title, proved a master at reaching greens in regulation during the penultimate round at Glendower Golf Club.

"At the moment it's weird, I feel like I didn't play unbelievable". I was quite aggressive with the three-wood and I managed to knock it about 25 feet and managed to roll in the putt.

Paisley (65) caught a hot streak on the back nine as well, carding six birdies. "I hit it well, so I was able to come out and be aggressive off the tee, and if I can get that going, I can keep it up the whole day", he said.

He has eight European Tour career victories but has yet to lift his country's Open championship, which is the second oldest in the world having first been formally played in 1903.

Of the five former Major winners in the field, South Africans Retief Goosen and Charl Schwartzel did best with 69s.

Five-time European Tour victor Darren Fichardt of South Africa is alone in sixth on 205 after a 64, the lowest score of the day, and bettered only by Saddier this week.

Compatriot Graeme Storm won the tournament past year after a play-off with superstar Rory McIlroy of Northern Ireland, but failed by one shot to make the halfway cut Friday.
