Nigeria Summons US Ambassador Over Trump's 'S***hole' Remarks

Dick Durbin, said Trump said exactly that.

Donald Trump told reporters he's "the least racist person" as fallout continues from a vulgar remark about immigrants from Africa and Haiti attributed to the president following a meeting with lawmakers last week.

Trump appeared to give up for dead an immigration deal, coming back on the issue in a pair of early morning tweets three days after reportedly referring to African and Haitian immigrants as coming from "shithole countries", triggering global condemnation. "No, I am not a racist", he said.

Mr Trump is the oldest ever person to be elected for a first term as president, though Ronald Reagan was the oldest ever in office at age 77 by the end of his second term.

President Nana Addo's comments came hours after former President Mahama described President Trump as racist for his remarks.

The senator from Arizona said Trump's remarks came in reaction to an element of the deal that would reallocate the visas given out in a lottery to immigrants who are now in a protected status, like Haitians and the Dreamers.

Trump on Friday denied using certain "language" but did not deny using a certain expletive to describe African countries, according to the AP. There was shock and outrage at these, in the words of Democratic Senator Dick Durbin, "vile and racist" remarks - although the President himself insists that he was "totally misrepresented" and that there's "no trust" within the United States government.

Mr Trump also said in the meeting that he would prefer immigrants from countries like Norway instead.

The US leader said he is "willing and able" to reach a deal to protect immigrants brought to the United States as children. When asked by Tapper if the president's comments were explicitly racist, Love seemed to agree that they were.

According to a White House pool report, the president told reporters, "No".

He added, "We hope it won't happen again". "But what we have to do is not let that define this moment", said Republican Senator Cory Gardner on CBS's "Face the Nation" program.

"When he tweets it's out of his mouth, and sometimes it might not be clear, but at least it is exactly what he thinks", she said. "There has got to be a better balance between protecting relationships and getting the economy going".

Rand Paul was one of 11 candidates who were up against Trump during the 2016 Republican presidential primary. "How many times do you want me to say that?"

"I think we have a lot of sticking points but they are all Democrat sticking points".

Asked on Sunday whether he thought the comments had made it harder to achieve any immigration deal, Trump responded: "Have you seen what various senators said about my comments?" "We are certainly not a "shithole country". Senator Tim Scott (R-SC) told the Post and Courier that Senator Lindsey Graham, who was also there, that he had told him Trump's reported comments were "basically accurate".

"It's pretty clear it was a racist comment regarding people of color", she said.
