Leonardo DiCaprio joins Tarantino's Manson Family film

All of Tarantino's past work has been distributed by The Weinstein Company and, well...nobody wants that guy's name stuck on the front of their movie these days, so Quentin has shopped the film around Hollywood.

DiCaprio will reunite with his Django Unchained director for a film set in 1969 against the backdrop of the Manson Family murder of actress Sharon Tate and several other people at her home in Los Angeles.

Furthermore, the director has famously said he'll only ever helm ten movies in his career, and as this will be his ninth, the film is now being referred to as #9 in promotional circles. According to Deadline, DiCaprio will play an aging actor in the story that is being kept under wraps but is a Pulp Fiction-esque movie set during the time of the Manson murder spree in Los Angeles. His sidekick - who's also his stunt double - is looking for the same thing. We'll have to wait, mind, as the film's still in production and not due to hit cinemas until 2019 - the studio has apparently set a 9 August release date, to chillingly coincide with the 50th anniversary of the murders of Tate and her friends by the Manson family. After all that, however, Tarantino signed with Sony. Not only was his first appearance in a QT movie - Django Unchained - the high point of his career to date, but this will also be DiCaprio's first project since his Oscar-winning turn in The Revenant. Tarantino is still looking for the second male lead for the film, which means both Cruise and Pitt might still be an option, if a deal can be worked out.

Variety also reports that Tarantino wrote a role specifically for Al Pacino.

The now untitled Quentin Tarantino Manson movie will open on August 9, 2019.

Whatever this movie ends up being, a new Tarantino movie will always be a source of anticipation.
