Iran will commit to nothing beyond nuclear deal: Foreign Ministry

A senior administration official said Trump wants the 2015 Iran deal strengthened with a follow-on agreement in 120 days or the United States will unilaterally withdraw from the global pact.

Iran "will not accept any amendments in this agreement, be it now or in the future, and it will not allow any other issues to be linked to the JCPOA", the foreign ministry said in a statement, using the 2015 deal's technical name.

In a statement, Trump said, "Today, I am waiving the application of certain nuclear sanctions, but only in order to secure our European allies' agreement to fix the bad flaws of the Iran nuclear deal".

The nuclear deal removed a number of sanctions on the Central Bank, and there had been reports that Trump would impose new sanctions, albeit not for reasons related to Iran's nuclear development.

Those hit by the sanctions include: Iranian judiciary chief Sadegh Amoli Larijani; the Rajaee Shahr Prison and its director, Gholamreza Ziaei; the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps Electronic Warfare and Cyber Defense Organization; Iran's Supreme Council of Cyberspace and National Cyberspace Center; Malaysia-based Green Wave Telecommunication and its Iranian director Morteza Razavi; and the Iran Helicopter Support and Renewal Company and Iran Aircraft Industries.

Iran's Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif describe Trump's decision as "desperate attempt" to "undermine" the deal.

"Iran's response will be severe, and all consequences of this hostile act will be the responsibility of the United States", it said. On Friday, Trump announced that he has chose to extend the nuclear deal one last time, opting not to reimpose economic sanctions on Iran.

Trump said this would be the last time he issues a waiver to maintain the accord, and he bluntly put the onus on European nations to agree to changes.

The U.S. has sanctioned around 100 individuals and entities involved with Iran's ballistic missile program and other activities which the United States saw as "illicit", according to Trump's statement on Friday.

The next deadline to waive sanctions under the agreement is the middle of May.

Trump also wants to terminate the phased expiration dates of various limitations placed on Iran's nuclear program.

The other signatories to the deal - Britain, China, France, Germany and Russian Federation - and the European Union, which oversaw the talks, were watching carefully.

Issuing designations for 14 individuals and entities, Treasury Secretary Steven Mnuchin said the U.S. will not be a silent spectator while the Iranian regime continues to engage in human rights abuses and injustice.

US President on Friday decided on to extend sanctions aid offered to Iran due to the agreement of the 2015 nuclear deal.

It's also clear - as we have seen recently via the protests in 80 or so Iranian cities - that little or none of these billions were spent on the Iranian people themselves.

"This is a last chance", said in a statement.

This would not entail negotiations with Iran but would be the result of talks with European allies, the official said.

"We are also supporting the fearless Iranian citizens who are demanding change from a corrupt regime that wastes the Iranian people's money on weapons systems at home and terrorism overseas", Trump said.

Senior administration officials said Larijani has overseen the sentencing and execution of juveniles in Tehran.

In addition, he wants the deal to state that Iran's nuclear effort and its missile programs are inseparable.
