Ford Edge ST confirmed with turbo V6

The company will unveil the model and improvements to its entire Edge line at the at the 2018 North American International Auto Show next week. And while there's no stick available, the paddle shifters will give you manual control over the changes.

Beside "confidence", if there was another guiding principle for the design team, it was likely freedom of choice; the 2019 Ford Edge will be available with four new exterior colors and four new wheel designs from launch, while the interior will offer three different palettes.

It's only two years since the Ford Edge SUV arrived in the United Kingdom market as a big brother to the Kuga and Ecosport in Ford's SUV range, but it's already getting a bit of a facelift.

"Edge ST puts a new animal on the road - a performance SUV with a track mentality", said Hau Thai-Tang, executive vice president of Product Development and Purchasing. There are also additional standard perks - forward collision warning, pre-collision assist, blind-spot monitoring, lane-keep assist, and automatic high beams.

Ford will also fit the vehicle standard with AvanceTrac with Roll Stability Control, Curve Control, and 911 Assist.

Aside from the ST, the 2019 Edge gets a styling update and a hefty boost in safety technology, among other things. Evasive steering assist helps a driver avoid a collision with "steering support" to get around an obstacle in the case of imminent impact.

"Edge drivers expect a sophisticated, modern driving experience", said Cristina Aquino, Edge marketing manager. Sync comes standard on the vehicles.

Further performance tweaks have been made in the shape of ST-tuned suspension and the inclusion of a new sport mode, which sharpens the throttle response, gearbox and delivers greater engine braking. Even the base 2.0-liter EcoBoost four now offers five more horsepower while returning better fuel economy, thanks in no small part to that eight-speed automatic. The standard vehicle comes with a 2.0-liter EcoBoost engine paired with an 8-speed transmission.

Inside, a redesigned center console is accentuated by an all-new rotary gearshift dial that frees up space, allows easier access to the wireless charging pad and enhances the vehicle's modern, sophisticated feel.

Many buyers of the SUV are professionals who say they want to project a positive image while having access to a wide range of options that may now include WiFi hotspots, internet access for up to 10 devices, and the ability to use a smartphone to lock, unlock, remotely start and locate the Edge.
