It's relevant to note that these are just the reported numbers - they could be much higher, as not everyone seeks medical attention when they have the flu.

Canada's flu shot contains the same vaccine components as that used by Australia during the Southern Hemisphere's flu season that ended in August, which was found to have only 10 per cent effectiveness in preventing H3N2.

Providers should also encourage patients to get a flu shot, even if they think they've had the flu.


Doctors say the best line of defense against the virus is still the vaccine.

Get vaccinated. The list of reasons to avoid vaccination is short (such as having a severe reaction to the vaccine in the past); and no, the standard injected flu vaccine can not cause you to get the flu.

Officials from Collin County, Denton County, and Tarrant County all say parents should vaccinate their children, especially now that kids are back in school.

To be effective, the drugs must be taken in 12 to 48 hours from onset of symptoms, which include cough, muscle aches and fever.
