FIRST ALERT Weather Day: Frigid temperatures, dangerous travel conditions

A Winter Weather Advisory has been issued for Eastern North Carolina per the Tuesday afternoon update from the National Weather Service Newport / Morehead City office.

Rain will begin in the afternoon, then changeover to snow late afternoon/early evening.

Friday night: Partly cloudy, with a low around 23. Wednesday is expected to be about 29 degrees, with a 10 mph to 14 mph northwest wind and gusts as high as 22 mph.


Severe Weather Team 2 is tracking the chilly temperatures today and the chance for snow Tuesday, on Channel 2 Action News at Noon. The impact on the morning rush hour is now forecast to be minor to moderate with a light snow cover on most roads and moderate snow falling. Southwest wind 14 to 18 miles per hour. One to three inches of snow expected.

On top of that, wind chill could plunge temperatures into the teens in central Georgia and even into the single digits and below in the northern counties. Partly sunny, with a high near 45. Northeast wind 3 to 6 miles per hour.

Thursday Night: Clear, with a low around 22.

FRIDAY-WEEKEND: Sunshine and warmer temperatures return with highs in the lower to mid 50s Friday and Saturday with highs topping out around 60 on Sunday.

THURSDAY: Mostly sunny with a high near 29 and a low of 18.
