Fired White Male Google Engineer Sues Over Workplace Discrimination

James Damore, the former Google engineer who was sacked for writing a controversial internal memo questioning the company's diversity policies has sued the company for allegedly discriminating against conservative white males.

Damore, a Harvard graduate, caused quite the stir past year after saying that there were "inherent biological differences in men and women", arguing that if companies attempt to level the playing field, they are doing so sometimes by sacrificing talent.

Mr Damore had argued that "distribution of preferences and abilities of men and women differ in part due to biological causes and that these differences may explain why we don't see equal representation of women in tech and leadership" before being sacked by Google. He and another fired engineer, David Gudeman, claimed that employees who did not believe in the company's liberal mission statement were "mistreated".

In a complaint filed January, 8 in the Superior Court of California, Santa Clara, Damore accused the technology giant of "systematically" singling out, punishing and terminating employees whose views on diversity, social justice and gender bias differed from the majority view at Google.

The suit is being handled by the Dhillon Law Group, which said it was representing people who were discriminated against due to their "perceived conservative political views", as well as being male and Caucasian.

The lawsuit said that Google is anti-conservative, and the plaintiffs submitted documentation as proof.

It seems that in many cases now, Asian employees and students are lumped in with Caucasian employees and students as members of a "privileged class". He said that Google's mission to include more minorities and women was not beneficial for the company. Google chief Sundar Pichai said "portions of the memo violate our code of conduct and cross the line by advancing harmful gender stereotypes in our workplace". "As with many things in life, gender differences are often a case of "grass being greener on the other side"; unfortunately, taxpayer and Google money is spent to water only one side of the lawn".

Gudeman was terminated in 2016 for allegedly harassing a Muslim colleague. The lawsuit claims that Gudeman merely told his colleague that the Federal Bureau of Investigation could have "found something interesting" after he went on a trip to Pakistan. Google human resources fired him, saying it was unacceptable to accuse a colleague of terrorism based on their religion.

Google told Reuters that they were looking forward to facing the lawsuit in court. The latest claim to be noted in Damore's lawsuit is that Google doesn't consider Asian or Caucasian males to be "diverse".
