Everything President Trump has tweeted (and what it was about)

"I've asked him about it a number of times, and he denied, but kept up the racist rhetoric throughout the campaign and now while he's in the White House".

"Trump must also know that numerous poverty and governance related problems that African countries are facing are as a result of United States foreign policies that directly or indirectly affect them", Odinga argued.

Trump was meeting with lawmakers in a bid to gain bipartisan support for an immigration deal that would possibly restore TPS for countries - including Haiti - where it's been removed, according to The Washington Post.

Pascale Marra said the remark goes against a long history - more than 200 years of friendship and cooperation between the USA and Haiti, which share the same democratic values.

On Twitter, President Macky Sall of Senegal wrote: "I am shocked by President Trump's comments on Haiti and Africa".

Trump predicted earlier in the week that the exam would "go very well" and he'd be "very surprised if it doesn't".

"For once, we are all on the same page", an ambassador told AFP.

Around 10:15 a.m., Trump returned Durbin's call and was told about the main elements of the deal.

Mr Coleville added: "This isn't just a story about vulgar language, it's about opening the door to humanity's worst side, about validating and encouraging racism and xenophobia".

The White House, in an initial statement, didn't deny the remarks, which remained unchallenged by the Trump administration until a pair of tweets from the President.

Graham and Durbin laid out the details of their proposed legislation.

The United States itself has its own problems such as unemployment among millions of people, inequality and non-access to healthcare for many poor people, Duarte said. "This is for anyone who may be taken aback by my comments: I don't really care if you are".

"We would not deign to make comments as derogatory as that about any country that has any kind of socio-economic or other difficulties", Duarte said, adding that much like their African counterparts, millions of U.S. citizens were affected by problems such as unemployment.

Dick Durbin, who was also in the meeting, says he heard the president make those comments.

"We do not recall the President saying these comments specifically, but what he did call out was the imbalance in our current immigration system, which does not protect American workers and our national interest", the statement said. The statement also noted that the president wanted immigrants who "contribute" and can "assimilate".

However, some senators have debunked Trump's response.
