England win toss and bowl against Australia in first ODI

Australia captain Steve Smith is sure this month's one-day global series against England can hold its own against the allure of the Big Bash.

Australian opening batsmen Aaron Finch scored his 9 century in ODI and also crossed 3000 ODI runs landmark. Australia may go into the opener at the MCG as favourites but Morgan has vowed to stick to the approach Bayliss has cultivated. - Former Yorkshire head coach, Jason Gillespie, is now in charge of Sussex.

Opener Aaron Finch scored 107 and put on 118 in a fourth-wicket partnership with Mitchell Marsh which carried Australia to 304-8 as it batted first on Sunday in the first of five one-day internationals against England. Appearances in the World T20 final in 2016 and the ICC Champions Trophy semi-finals in 2017, while ultimately disappointing, have been steps in the right direction. They have been brilliant in the 50-over games in the recent past and a win here would be so good for them.

The ECB, however, finds itself in a hard position, for to remove Bayliss now would be to risk so much of the good work that he has done in the white-ball formats.

England rebranded their limited-overs game dramatically since they were last one these shores, the abject 2015 World Cup campaign which exposed some outdated ideas and became a watershed moment for the team.

In other words, the European Central Bank are effectively hoping to bumble along with Bayliss until that glorious moment when - all being well - he lifts the World Cup and rides off into the sunset, main mission accomplished. Australia 199 for 4 after 36 overs.

For what it is worth, I also hope that England can bumble along with Bayliss until September next year because they could well do without the attendant upheaval. They will prey on an unsettled Australian batting order and should feel confident of making the necessary inroads. "I don't know why this is news. They're good one-day bowlers and a good one-day outfit so it's a good challenge".

England skipper Eoin Morgan believes that the pace at which cricket is changing, particularly in shorter formats, will see countries employ different coaches for different formats.

The series against Australia will be interesting if only to see how England respond to the Ashes defeat. The ball after leaving a wayward leg side wide, Smith offered an open face to the googly and the resulting thin edge was clasped by a juggling Buttler.

Can England maintain their white-ball surge?
