Camila Cabello explains why she left Fifth Harmony

Fifth Harmony formed in 2012 during the United States version of X-Factor, with Cabello remaining a member until she left the pop group in December 2016. Despite the shock factor, Fifth Harmony told Good Morning America two days after their performance that it was more about revealing the bands future as a foursome and less about their former bandmate: "We wanted to show the world in an artistic way that, hey, the four of us are Fifth Harmony".

Ahead of the release of her debut solo album, the 20-year-old "Havana" pop star performed her newest release from the album on Wednesday night (January 10). I was just like, 'What?

After her request to write lyrics for Fifth Harmony was denied, Cabello, who said she wanted to pursue a solo career while still in the group, realized something had to change (via Spin).

Sir Elton John is a huge fan of Camila Cabello.

If I spoke to her I would just say, 'Congratulations, you make me happy.

At first she wanted to stay in the group while making a solo record, but she was shut out by the other four members.

Sadly, Cabello said she would have like to stay with the band but it became impossible because she chose to follow her passion. "It definitely hurt my feelings", she told the outlet, adding, "I wasn't expecting it, I wasn't prepared for it - especially because at that point I'd moved on from it".

There is still some bad blood among the ladies, who she said gave her the ultimatum that led to her departure, announced in December 2016. "I have to make space for the good stuff to happen in my life". I was just like, 'What?

Be sure to check out the "Havana" hitmaker's eponymous debut solo album dropping January 12!

So that's when she made a decision to say goodbye to the girl group and in her eyes, "if anyone wants to explore their individuality, it's not right for people to tell you no", she told the publication. "I don't like holding onto the past, especially when it's stuff that, in my opinion, is just petty".
