Bannon to appear before Congress committee on Russian Federation probe

Charles Harder of Harder Mirell & Abrams, who is representing both the President and the Trump campaign, has said that allegations made by Bannon "give rise to numerous legal claims including defamation by libel and slander, and breach of his written confidentiality and non-disparagement agreement with our clients". Bannon also suggested that Trump and his family would likely be brought down by a massive money laundering operation that Mueller and his team would soon uncover.

In an interview with Michael Wolff, the author of the tell-all book, "Fire and Fury: Inside the Trump White House", Bannon described some of Trump's top campaign aides as naive, unethical and clumsy, seemingly unaware of the repercussions of meeting with a Russian attorney who pledged to provide documents that would "incriminate" Democratic rival Hillary Clinton.

President Donald Trump Trump responded at the time by slamming Bannon in a fiery statement, saying Bannon had "lost his mind".

The news comes two days after Bannon stepped down from Breitbart, the far-right website he returned to over the summer as executive chairman after being ousted from the White House.

His departure from Breitbart threatens to further isolate the self-proclaimed champion of anti-Washington populism that swept Trump to power and whom Bloomberg once called "the most risky political operative in America".

The poll was taken before Bannon was sacked from Breitbart. Bannon's departure was forced by his onetime financial patron, Rebekah Mercer. Bannon has agreed to an interview with the committee, which is investigating Russia's election meddling and links to the Trump campaign. Bannon liquidated his equity stake in the operation when he left for the White House, leaving him with a greatly diminished say in the matter. His support of Roy S. Moore in Alabama ended in an embarrassing loss.

In the book, Bannon is quoted as saying a pre-election meeting involving Trump's eldest son Donald Jr. and a Kremlin-linked Russian lawyer was "treasonous".

Bannon doesn't quit, though, and he'll be back.
