Arsene Wenger opens up on Theo Walcott transfer to Everton

Sam Allardyce has confirmed that Everton are in talks with Arsenal's Theo Walcott over a possible move.

The winger has made just five appearances in the Premier League this season, all of which have come from the bench.

"I think you are all aware of our interest in Theo", said Allardyce.

"If we're able to get that over the line, I'll be delighted", he told reporters.

"If we can get that all sorted out then that would be a great addition to join us from an attacking point of view".

But, after revealing he was keen to bring in Theo Walcott, Allardyce admits he has taken a gamble bringing in the Turkey global in January.

"So if that's at all possible, that would be very nice".

"I can not give him assurances as it is not honest", he said when asked if he was going to give Walcott more chances in the second half of the season.

Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger would prefer Walcott to stay at the Emirates, but could be prepared to let him go if Welbeck remains fit and Olivier Giroud does not suffer an injury setback.

Tosun is in line to make his Everton debut against Tottenham at Wembley on Saturday and Allardyce hopes the former Besiktas striker can make an immediate impact. I will be very excited and enthused once someone - if it's not Theo -has actually signed on the dotted line in this window or any window. People laugh at us - they see it as a bit of a joke with what's going on at the moment - players don't want to be there.

Asked if the move was motivated by Walcott's worldwide ambitions, Wenger said: "Yeah of course, everyone wants to play".

Wenger said: "We still have a good relationship and I don't want him to be frustrated or lose any opportunity to play in the World Cup, because Theo went to the World Cup in Germany in 2006 and we are now in 2018 and he's not been since for different reasons".
