April Ryan: 'Mr. President, Are You a Racist?'

The ministry also pointed out a US Congressional delegation is due to visit the country at the end of January.

Donald Trump has tried to quell a storm over his reported criticism of immigration from "shithole countries" - a slur slammed as racist around the world.

"I think it was stupid and irresponsible and childish", said Rep. Mike Simpson, R-Idaho.

Ryan said his ancestors were Irish and "were really looked down upon".

Senegal's president says he is "shocked" by Trump's remark, saying that "Africa and the black race merit the respect and consideration of all". They weren't surprising. They were on par with literally everything he's said and done FOR DECADES.

Some Republicans were also up in arms over the remarks. Durbin said Trump repeatedly referred to African countries as "shitholes".

At an event on Friday, Trump was honoring the memory of Martin Luther King Jr, the civil rights era activist who was slain in 1968. Day, noting the contributions of a "great American hero". "No matter the colour of our skin or place of our birth we are all equal". Mr. Trump has denied he used the terminology Mr. Durbin accuses him of. Jeffress says Trump has courage and deserved gratitude for his leadership. Many advocates said the comments shed light on why the Trump administration last fall stripped Haitians of Temporary Protected Status - specialized protection granted to people from countries experiencing significant turmoil - in which it would be unsafe for its citizens to return.

After some members of Congress, including a Haitian-American Republican from Utah, condemned the remarks, WPLN asked members of Tennessee's congressional delegation their views. "We will probably hear more from him".

The source said Trump made the statement as he rejected a pitch Thursday from a bipartisan team of senators on a compromise immigration deal to protect DACA participants while increasing border security. He did not specifically deny using the word "s***hole".

The comments were reminiscent of ones the President made past year in an Oval Office meeting with cabinet officials and administration aides, during which he complained about admitting Haitians to the country.

But instead of holding his bigoted tongue and keeping his ignorance to himself, Trump shared his feelings to members of Congress, which is a problem, because instead of his comments being construed as the rantings of a maniacal madman, his views are dangerously close to becoming USA immigration policy.

Christian Christensen, professor of journalism in Stockholm, tweeted: "Of course people from Norway would love to move to a country where people are far more likely to be shot, live in poverty, get no healthcare because they're poor, get no paid parental leave or subsidised daycare and see fewer women in political power". In an editorial, the local Daily Maverick called the comments "a new low", adding, "Casual Friday at the White House is soon to include hoods and tiki torches at this rate". The people were not authorized to describe the conversation and spoke on condition of anonymity.

While many tweeted their disgust with the president due to his racist and xenophobic speech, The Daily Show host Trevor Noah used intelligent and comic relief to prove just how ignorant the president's comments are.

Ileana Ros-Lehtinen, a Republican lawmaker from Florida, tweeted that Trump's comment, if confirmed, "ignores the contributions thousands of Haitians have made to our #SoFla community and nation".

U.S. President Donald Trump answers a question during a joint news conference with Norwegian Prime Minister Erna Solberg at the White House in Washington, U.S., January 10, 2018.

Trump's response Friday morning was particularly notable after White House spokesperson Raj Shah did not deny the "sh**hole" remark on Thursday evening.

"Because of the Democrats not being interested in life and safety, DACA has now taken a big step backwards".
