African countries slam Trump's racist remarks as outrageous, offensive

But on Twitter on Friday morning, Trump appeared to deny that he said the word "shithole", although he did say his language was "tough".

President Akufo-Addo tweeted that Trump's reported language was "extremely unfortunate", adding: "We are certainly not "a shithole country".

Trump on Thursday questioned why the USA would accept more immigrants from Haiti and "shithole countries" in Africa rather than places like Norway in rejecting a bipartisan immigration deal.

The New York Times reported the same comment, citing unnamed people with direct knowledge of the meeting.

Trump said he was only expressing what many people think but won't say about immigrants from economically depressed countries, according to a person who spoke to the president as criticism of his comments ricocheted around the globe.

Trump asked why the USA needed more people from Haiti and Africa. Alexander Hamilton said that the Louisiana Purchase would have never happened were it not for the "courage and obstinate resistance of the black inhabitants" of Haiti. "I have a wonderful relationship with Haitians!" he posted.

"The anniversary of the devastating natural disaster 8 years ago is a day to remember the tragedy, honor the resilient people of Haiti, & affirm America's commitment to helping our neighbors", the Pantsuit Queen sermonized.

The White House has dismissed questions about Trump's mental fitness, calling them "disgraceful and laughable".

While Trump denied the widely reported comment in a tweet, Senator Dick Durbin of IL, one of the top-ranking Democrats and a longtime supporter of immigration reform, said he "personally heard" the president's comment, and that Trump had repeatedly used "hate-filled, vile and racist" words.

"You can not dismiss entire countries and continents as "s-holes" whose entire populations, who are not white, are therefore not welcome. The President will only accept an immigration deal that adequately addresses the visa lottery system and chain migration, two programs that hurt our economy and allow terrorists into our country".

Trump earned national political prominence by promoting the falsehood that Barack Obama, America's first African-American president, was not born in the United States. "It is about opening the door to humanity's worst side".

"If the president were consistent in his positioning in this, it would give the Republicans cover" on a deal, said Theresa Brown, director of immigration policy at the Bipartisan Policy Center in Washington.

Graham and Durbin laid out the details of their proposed legislation. He was fuming about the latest bipartisan deal on immigration.

Mr Trump a year ago ended the Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals scheme, which provided protection from deportation along with the ability to work legally in the US.

The U.S. Congress just passed a historically unpopular tax bill which overwhelmingly benefits the super-wealthy, but they can not pass gun control legislation favored by 94% of Americans or protections for DREAMers favored by 76% of Americans.

Their future, he insisted, "should not be used as a bargaining chip to negotiate the most severe and restrictive immigration and security measures possible".

The White House determines what data will be released from the exam. Trump is not compelled to release any information, and there is no template for the presidential exam. Jackson is expected to take questions about the results from reporters on Tuesday.

"He has not only insulted Africans, he has also insulted African-Americans", said Sylvester Odion Akhaine, associate professor of global relations at the Lagos State University in Nigeria.

After the Thursday meeting at the White House - and a few hours before The Washington Post reported news of Trump's "shithole" remarks - Graham was calm and composed when speaking with reporters about how his pitch had gone over with the president and his colleagues.

Former US ambassador to the UN Samantha Power has shared the statement on Twitter, saying: "Whoa".

Some Republicans were also unhappy.
