3 soldiers fall off chopper during Army Day rehearsal, inquiry ordered

According to reports, the injured soldiers were part of the parade that will be held at Army Parade Ground in Delhi Cantonment.

Slithering is an exercise where troops are dropped from a helicopter in an area of operation using a rope attached to the chopper. "An investigation is in progress", said an Army officer. However, the good news is that none of the three army personnel received any serious injuries. All of a sudden, the rope gets detached and the three men come crashing down, the Financial Express reported.

Though, the actual cause behind the incident is not clear yet but as per an Army official the incident happened due to boom malfunction and not due to rope that was used for operation.

Sources added that as a matter of protocol, all slithering operations from the ALH Dhruv will remain suspended till a probe in the incident is completed.

A video doing the rounds on social media, shows soldiers sliding down a rope from the helicopter.

"The whole boom of the helicopter broke, it is likely to be some material-related issue, but the exact reason will be ascertained only after the inquiry report comes in", a source said.

The Indian Army celebrates Army Day in honour of Lieutenant General KM Kariappa who took over as the first Commander-in-Chief of the Indian Army from General Sir Francis Butcher on 15 January 1949.
