Texas father shoots man dead after robbery suspect threatens kids with gun

A father eating at a Popeye's restaurant - and carrying his licensed handgun - shot a would-be robber dead Wednesday after the thief threatened the man's family at gunpoint and demanded the dad's belongings.

A Texas father had to make the hard decision to shoot and kill a would-be robber after the man threatened him and his family in a local Popeye's. The robber then turned his gun toward the man's family.

Starnes said that employees were also threatened by the robber and they ran out the back of the restaurant.

According to the San Antonio Police Department, a man walked into Popeye's and confronted a family and tried to rob them.


That when the terrified father pulled out his gun and fired off several shots in Herrera's direction, killing him.

Molina, his wife, and two of their children, prepared to leave, but had to wait for two more of his children who were still in the bathroom.

His body could be seen between the dining area and counter as investigators examined the scene.

"He really saved the day and protected a lot of people", Starnes said.
