State Dept says Donald Trump travel ban fully implemented

Friday, after a full panel of judges on the Fourth Circuit Court of Appeals heard arguments in Virginia - and two days after a panel of three judges on the Ninth Circuit Court of Appeals heard arguments in Seattle - it seems that the legal issues have circled back to several familiar places.

The week began with the Supreme Court allowing Mr. Trump's latest proclamation - the third iteration of the travel ban - to go into effect pending the decisions from the two appeals courts.

Wynn previously compared the administration's travel restrictions to Korematsu v. U.S., a case in which the Supreme Court sanctioned the internment of Japanese Americans during World War II. The various versions of the order have produced a year of nearly constant litigation, blending age-old questions of religious discrimination and judicial oversight of the White House with newer complexities of how to handle a case the president can't seem to stop tweeting about. The justices did not include their reasoning on Monday, but the order is a positive sign for the administration if the high court is asked to review the merits of the policy. The countries are Chad, Iran, Libya, Syria, Somalia, Yemen, Venezuela and North Korea.

This is the second time the full 4th Circuit is reviewing the president's immigration authority. Lawyers say that and earlier statements by Trump prove the policy is aimed at blocking the entry of Muslims, rather than the president's stated goal of preserving national security.

-President Trump's efforts to restrict entry to the United States for citizens from eight countries came a few steps closer to a final resolution this week.

"It does in fact violate both", Wang responded, arguing that the travel ban demonstrates "internal illogic" by failing to include certain countries with known deficiencies in their information-sharing practices on its travelers. He insisted the latest travel ban is different than two previous bans that have been harshly criticized as anti-Muslim.

"It doesn't really sound like we can say to the President of the United States, 'You're not being logical here, '" Judge Diana Motz remarked. Deputy Assistant Attorney General Hashim Mooppan said the retweets were not "legally relevant" to the travel ban, which applies to six majority-Muslim nations.

"None of their relatives or other aliens with whom they have a bona fide connection has actually been excluded yet by virtue of the proclamation", according to the Justice Department filing. Among them is an Iranian engineer who has lived in Maryland since 2012 with his wife, a researcher at the National Institutes of Health.

Another plaintiff is a researcher in pharmacology in OH who was born in Syria and has lived in the United States since 2001.

According to Hamadmad's statement in court, "It is painful for all of us that he lives so far away and may be separated from us indefinitely".
