Sid Meier's Civilization VI is now available on iPad

Civilization's developer, however, has put the game on sale for 50% off until January 4, 2018.

According to the app's description, "Originally created by legendary game designer Sid Meier, Civilization is a turn-based strategy game in which you attempt to build an empire to stand the test of time".

The Civilization series has suffered through a variety of lacklustre mobile ports that have failed to replicate the full Civ experience, but Aspyr's take on Civ VI is the real deal, with it emulating the original game piece-by-piece. This is the first time the main series has been available on iPad.

Local multiplayer is available but as to whether online and cross-platform multiplayer will be supported, that's as yet unknown.

The iOS version of Civilization 6 requires at least iOS 11.1.2, and will only run on an iPad Air 2, a fifth-generation iPad (aka the 2017 model) or an iPad Pro. You can download the game via the iTunes App Store. That's where the bad news comes in: it will cost $60, the same price as the PC and Mac versions. This version appears to be a port of the full PC game - with a $60 price tag to match. Additionally, the first 60 turns of the game will be free to play. This just includes the base game, so players won't get access to previously released DLC content or expansions.

"You have to think on your feet in Civilization VI in ways you've never had to before", read TIME's Civilization VI review previous year. Regarding add-on content, Aspyr said, "We hope to support DLC and expansions in the future but can not confirm timing or availability at this time".
