Sensex rises 194 pts on Gujarat exit polls

Mumbai: The flagship Sensex opened in the green by jumping 117 points on Thursday on value-buying in blue- chips ahead of exit poll results for Gujarat election.

India's GDP growth to be 6.5% in 2017-18 and 7.2% in 2018-19, according to Economic Outlook in 2018 report.

On Friday, the 30-share Sensex gained 216.27 points to close at 33,462.97. The gauge had lost 402.75 points in the previous two sessions.

The S&P BSE Sensex advanced 0.65 percent at 33,462 while the broader NSE Nifty gained 0.79 percent to 10,333.

Intra-day, it shuttled between 10,276.10 and 10,141.55. The bank announced that it has chose to keep the marginal cost of fund based lending rate of the bank unchanged.


"VIX (volatility index) touched the 17 mark for the first time since February, hinting at the indecision ahead of Gujarat election results and the outcome of Parliament's winter session starting tomorrow", said Anand James, Chief Market Strategist, Geojit Financial Services.

Meanwhile, the rupee strengthened to 64.04 against the dollar from 64.34 on Thursday, while the benchmark 10-year bond yield eased to 7.12%. Nifty settled up 59.15 points, or 0.58%, ending at at 10252.10.

Back home, in the Sensex bloc, M&M was on the top, rising 3.56 per cent, followed by Coal India.

Provisional data with the exchanges showed that foreign institutional investors sold scrips worth Rs 921.03 crore while domestic institutional investors purchased stocks worth Rs 635.44 crore.

There were only a few losers, of which TCS plunged the most by 2.62 per cent, followed by Sun Pharma, Power Grid and L&T.
