Sanders goes off on the media at White House press briefing

As he began a question, Acosta told Sanders at Monday's press briefing that journalists make "honest mistakes" and that doesn't mean it's "fake news".

Fox News, which typically draws praise from the president for its coverage, also had its own recent issues with inaccurate reporting - though Sanders did not mention those.

CNN's Brian Karem asked Sanders the question during a tense briefing where Sanders had sparred with reporters over "fake news" and discussed the sexual harassment allegations against President TrumpDonald John TrumpHouse Democrat slams Donald Trump Jr. for "serious case of amnesia" after testimony Skier Lindsey Vonn: I don't want to represent Trump at Olympics Poll: 4 in 10 Republicans think senior Trump advisers had improper dealings with Russia MORE. She added that it's not an "honest mistake" when people put out information they know to be false or "hasn't been validated".

"There's a very big difference between making honest mistakes and purposefully misleading the American people - something that happens regularly", Sanders said.

On Friday, CNN corrected a scoop which initially claimed WikiLeaks provided access to stolen emails to Donald Trump Jr. on September 4, 2016, before they were public.

The Washington Post quickly took down a photo posted by a reporter that claimed a small crowd at the president's campaign rally Friday in Pensacola, Florida.

Sanders repeated arguments she has made before that the election settled the question of whether Trump harassed women: "We feel like these allegations have been answered through that process".

Last month, Trump promoted several Islamophobic videos from a British far-right activist with a history of disseminating false information.

"I'm sorry, I'm not finished", she said.
