Pakistan offers excellent opportunities: PM Abbasi tells London Mayor

Mayor of London Sadiq Khan accompanied by the British High Commissioner to Pakistan Thomas Drew met the Chief Minister Punjab Shahbaz Sharif in Lahore on Wednesday and discussed matters of mutual interest & bilateral relations.

PM Abbasi told Khan that every Pakistani is proud of his election as mayor of London and prays for his success.

Khan, who is on a three-day official visit to Pakistan, called on the premier in Islamabad on Thursday, according to Radio Pakistan.

Earlier, Khan held meetings with business leaders and Indian government ministers as a part of his visit to Mumbai, Delhi and Amritsar in India.


Earlier in the day, while visiting the Golden Temple at Amritsar in India, Mr Khan called on the British government on Wednesday to make a formal apology for the 1919 Jallianwala Bagh massacre in which almost 400 people were shot dead by British Indian army soldiers. "But it's good to be in Pakistan", he continued with a smile.

The London mayor was also briefed about the investment opportunities for trade and investment in the country.

Asked in July of this year for an update, Mr Khan said TfL expected "to be able to confirm the plan for London Overground Boxing Day services in September". On this occasion, Zafar equated London with Lahore vis-à-vis socio-cultural openness.
