New Director Hired To Replace Bryan Singer On Bohemian Rhapsody

Singer's dismissal followed his abrupt absences from the set, which had caused a production halt. It had been filming in London. It's possible that Singer's days as a Hollywood power player are numbered.

Bryan Singer's replacement revealed after the director was sacked earlier this week. Fletcher, who has acted in films such as Lock, Stock and Two Smoking Barrels, Kick-Ass and The Elephant Man, has also taken charge as director for films like WIld Bill, Sunshine of Leith and the Michael "Eddie" Edwards biopic Eddie the Eagle.

Singer was sacked from the high-profile project on Monday this week over reported absences and alleged conflicts with actor Rami Malek, who portrays Freddie Mercury in the film.

It remains to be seen how much of Bohemian Rhapsody will be Fletcher's and his much of it will be Singer's.

Bohemian Rhapsody is still expected to hit theaters on December 25, 2018. A mere few days later, he was sacked for "unreliability and unprofessionalism", and allegedly even got into a tense confrontation with Malek over his absences. Singer was sacked from the project December 4 after what the studio said were unexplained absences from the set, although the director countered that the studio refused to give him time off to care for an ill parent. "While, at times, we did have creative differences on set, Rami and I successfully put those differences behind us and continued to work on the film together until just prior to Thanksgiving".

But as Variety reports, a source claims Tom Hollander, who portrays Queen band manager Jim Beach, walked away as well because of Singer's behavior, but was convinced to return.

'Bryan Singer is no longer the director of Bohemian Rhapsody, ' Twentieth Century Fox said in a statement. Lucy Boynton also stars as Mary Austin, Mercury's muse and lover.
