Man City's star midfielders out vs Shakhtar Donetsk

After second-placed Manchester United had beaten Arsenal on Saturday, Pep Guardiola's side were under pressure to register their 13th league win on the trot, but the runaway leaders were made to work extremely hard on Sunday.

City announced on Monday that Silva would not be travelling to Kharkiv for City's Champions League game against Shakhtar Donetsk on Wednesday because he was "not fully fit".

Manchester City midfielder David Silva is set to miss the Manchester Derby this weekend.

"Kevin is suspended tomorrow and Silva has a little problem - I don't know whether he will recover for Sunday", Guardiola said.

A win will see City break a Premier League record for most consecutive wins while at the same time shatter United's unbeaten record at home - which will stretch to 40 in all competitions if they avoid a loss to CSKA Moscow on Tuesday [5 December] night.

It hasn't always been plain sailing for Pep Guardiola's side however, as on four occasions (Bournemouth, Huddersfield, Southampton, West Ham) they've had to come back from a goal down, and on four occasions they've relied on late goals to secure all three points (Bournemouth, Huddersfield, Southampton, West Ham). "He felt something. Hopefully he can play on Sunday".

Ederson was the first to talk, and claimed it's been happening for a while now: "I think it's the third consecutive game that we find it hard to reach the opponent's goal".

Guardiola added: "We just play to win the game. We are going to try to be who we are", he said.

They are serious contenders for the Champions League, with them, PSG and Bayern Munich the favourites for me, but I do see an awkward result coming somewhere and Shakhtar are a decent side. The most important thing is that last month we were okay.

"But we troubled them, we defended well and played well on the counter attack, we had great chances to go 2-2 at the end but they are top players". "We believe in what we can do".
