Boom!: Apple FINALLY Admits To Slowing Down Older iPhone Models

Apple did not immediately respond Thursday to a request for comment.

They claim that Apple's iOS updates "were engineered to purposefully slow down or "throttle down" the performance speeds" of the iPhone 5, iPhone 6 and iPhone 7.

"As a result of Defendant's wrongful actions, Plaintiffs and Class Members had their phone slowed down, and thereby it interfered with Plaintiffs' and Class Members' use or possession of their iPhones", according to the lawsuit, which has been posted online by a New York CBS TV station.

Apple is being sued after it admitted to slowing down older iPhone models to keep them running longer. On Wednesday, it had put out a statement confirming what many users had suspected - but couldn't verify - that iPhones slowed as they aged.

In summary, Apple is saying it slows the performance on phones with ageing lithium-ion batteries to help prevent unexpected shutdowns, which happens often if the batteries are old or cold.

Apple does offers a battery replacement service. While a second lawsuit, filed by five plaintiffs in the Northern District of the State of IL, accused Apple of deliberately keeping power management features a secret in an effort to persuade customers to upgrade to newer devices.

Bogdanovich and Speas, represented by the Los Angeles-based Wilshire Law Firm, argued that Apple never asked them for permission to install this feature and did not give them the option to choose or bargain a way to turn off the feature.

iPhone users for years have speculated that Apple was responsible for their phones acting up after the release of a newer model. But they can be replaced.

There are now rumours that OnePlus may include the Face ID technology which made its debut on the iPhone X recently on the OnePlus 6.

If you're curious about the status of your phone's battery you can download a free app, such as Battery Life from developer RBT Digital or head into your local Apple Store to get it checked out.
