Auto ploughs into crowd in NY - 'multiple people injured'

A vehicle jumped a curb and struck multiple pedestrians in a busy section of Lower Manhattan Thursday afternoon, police said.

The crash happened at Broadway and Liberty Sts, near Zucotti Park about 1.20pm local time. A bicyclist was also injured.

A witness, Hector Freytes of Queens, says people scattered as the vehicle sped along Liberty. There conditions were not immediately known but they were not believed to be life-threatening injuries.


An NYPD official said this crash does not appear to be intentional.

Preliminary information suggests two TLC drivers were involved in a crash and at least one of those drivers jumped the curb and hit pedestrians, police said.

The driver of the Lincoln is being questioned by police. Saipov has pleaded not guilty to multiple murder charges and providing material support to ISIS.
