Xiaomi Redmi 5 specs and press renders leaked ahead of December announcement

Speculations were made that it is going to be Redmi Note 5 or Redmi 5 Plus or a Mi phone but the rumours are now there are reports that Xiaomi may introduce a whole new smartphone series. That's a huge step up from the Redmi 4's 5-inch 16:9 HD (1280×720) display. The Redmi Y1 features 13MP rear and 16MP front camera. And now, the Xiaomi is reportedly again set to launch an all-new series of smartphones in India.

The company is holding a press event on December 7 where it will launch the Redmi 5 and Redmi 5 Plus. The Xiaomi Redmi Note 5 is the alleged successor of the popular Redmi Note 4 and has been spotted online which is what led to the suspicions that it will soon be released sending fans into a flurry.

The smartphone is expected to pack 3GB of RAM and 16GB of internal storage. The smartphone, a Flipkart-exclusive, is touted to be a battery-centric budget offering with smart multitasking capabilities. The phone runs Android Nougat covered under Xiaomi's proprietary MIUI 9 theme on the top. It is coupled with 4GB RAM and 128GB internal storage, with support for a microSD card too. It appears that the phone uses a microUSB port, so it looks like Xiaomi's budget line isn't yet ready to jump to USB-C. The listing on the TENAA sites tipped readers off that the Redmi Note 5 would also have a 4000mAh battery which is slightly smaller than the 4100mAh battery that was available with the Redmi Note 4. Selfie lovers get a 16MP front-facing camera with f/2.0 aperture, 76.4-degree wide angle sensor and a dedicated flash along with the Beautify feature. It measures 158.5mm x 75.5mm x 8.05mm and weighs 179 grams. However, Xiaomi did included something that has become a trend in the smartphone industry - an 18:9 format display. The launch of this mobile happened in China back in August. Since it is being marketed as the "India Ka Smartphone", it could be priced under Rs 5000 for the base model.

Xiaomi India Managing Director Manu Kumar Jain had revealed the development of its "Desh ka Smartphone" last week.
