Woman techie dies after spurned lover sets her on fire in Chennai

Chennai: In a horrific crime, which took place on Monday night in Chennai, a girl died of her burn injuries after her former classmate poured petrol and set her on fire.

Indhuja succumbed to the injuries while her mother and sister were admitted to hospital in critical condition after they suffered fatal burns.

The gory incident occurred at around 8.45 pm last night, when Akash went to Induja's home in Adambakkam and was refused entry to see her. On hearing the cries of the victim, her neighbours rushed to help the family and rushed them to the hospital.

She was being pursued by Akash against her will.

The accused, Aakash, absconded right after but was caught on Tuesday morning. Read Also: Man threatens girlfriend with knife, later hangs himself to evade arrest But when Akash came to know that her parents have started looking for a groom for Induja, Akash made a decision to raise the issue again and went to her house at Saraswathi Nagar 7th street in Adambakkam. Enraged, Aakash allegedly doused her in kerosene, set her on fire and fled from the spot, police said. The mother has suffered 49% burns, while the sister is in ICU at the Kilpauk Medical Hospital, according to News18. While Induja's family says she had rebuffed him, the accused claims that he was in a relationship with her and they had plans to marry.

Aakash and Indhuja were classmates at an engineering college they had graduated from.

Induja's father was not at home at the time, according to NDTV. He forced the girl and her family members to open the door by threatening them of committing suicide by setting himself on fire.
