Trump Asks China's President To Help Resolve UCLA Shoplifting Case

Riley, Hill and Ball were arrested on suspicion of shoplifting from three high-end stores in a shopping center next to the team's hotel in Hangzhou but were released on bail November 8.

Initial reports suggested the players could remain in China for up to two months, depending on whether Chinese authorities chose to pursue an arrest, which would spark an investigation. "You know, you're talking about very long prison sentences".

The teammates' return pretty much is a best-case scenario for Ball and Co., who were arrested last Tuesday for allegedly shoplifting from a Louis Vuitton store in Hangzhou last week. "And hopefully everything is going to work out", Trump said on board Air Force One, before word of the trio's return appeared.

"Trump learned about the details of the case from aides, including [Chief of Staff John] Kelly, said the official familiar with the internal discussions".

UCLA's trip coincided with Trump's two-day state visit to the Chinese capital, Beijing, as part of his 13-day trip to Asia.

Three UCLA basketball players held in China for a week are on their way back to Los Angeles, according to the L.A. Times.

Ball, Hill and Riley were released on bail last week, after getting arrested over allegations of shoplifting, NPR reported.

Pac-12 Commissioner Larry Scott said the matter "has been resolved to the satisfaction of the Chinese authorities". "Such proceedings are confidential, which limits the specific information that can be shared". "They (the Chinese authorities) do not play games". UCLA's next game is Wednesday against Central Arkansas.

The family is now filming a reality show called "Ball in the Family" and recently started an athletic apparel company, Big Baller Brand, "inspired by the Ball brothers".

The game is sponsored by Alibaba Group, the Chinese commerce giant that both UCLA and Georgia Tech visited before the shoplifting incident occurred.
