This is how Microsoft's new headquarters might look like

Microsoft has announced a massive expansion plan aimed at modernizing its headquarters in Redmond, Washington.

"The 125 buildings that make Microsoft's campus will become 131 when the project is complete, with the inclusion of "$150 million (£112 million) in transportation infrastructure improvements, public spaces, sports fields and green space", Microsoft's blog post reads.

Once complete, the campus will have 131 buildings, compared with today's 125 buildings, and will offer workspace for the 47,000 employees who now work there, plus room for an additional 8,000 people.

Microsoft isn't looking to relocate, unlike its fellow Washington-based tech company Amazon. As 18 new buildings would be constructed on the Microsoft Redmond Campus, 12 older buildings would be bulldozed. Vehicle parks that sat adjacent buildings will be moved underground to provide more space for buildings and recreational ground. The software giant will replace 12 of the existing buildings with the new modern campus, focus towards improved productivity and team-work.

Microsoft stated that the redevelopment of the campus would create over 2,500 new construction and development jobs. "We are not only creating a world-class work environment to help retain and attract the best and brightest global talent, but also building a campus that our neighbors can enjoy, and that we can build in a fiscally smart way with low environmental impact", Microsoft President Brad Smith outlined in an article.

The project is slated to take around five to seven years to complete and, according to Bloomberg, will cost multiple billions.

"Microsoft has always been a great partner, and the city is excited that they will continue to call Redmond home", Redmond mayor John Marchion said. Microsoft is committed to remaining a good neighbor and ensuring that our operations are run in a sustainable way. Microsoft said this will foster creativity and innovation.
