Maronite Patriarch Arrives in Saudi Arabia

Young and old, desk clerks and activists, Yemenis from all walks of life took to the streets Monday to protest a Saudi-led blockade that has left thousands struggling to survive.

The U.S. House of Representatives overwhelmingly voted for a resolution declaring that U.S. military assistance to Saudi Arabia in its war in Yemen is not authorized under previous legislation which has given the president power to combat terror overseas and invade Iraq in 2003.

Al-Mouallimi said the Saudi-led coalition wants tougher inspections at the port of Hodeida, which is controlled by Houthi Shiite rebels, because current United Nations -monitored inspections only check large ships, and "in the case of small and medium-size ships there is hardly any inspection that takes place in the port or anywhere else". "There are many sources of supply to Yemen, even during the past week or so".

Saudi's official media blamed its regional foe Iran for supporting the Yemeni rebels with long-range ballistic missiles.

"The continued closure by the Saudi-led coalition of critical seaports and airports is aggravating an already dire humanitarian situation".

Tuesday's move to ease the blockade came three days after the coalition reopened Aden seaport and Alwadiah land border crossing between Saudi Arabia and northeast Yemen, but the coalition has kept the Houthi-controlled northern ports shut.

Saudi-led coalition launched three airstrikes on the main civil airport north of Yemen's capital Sanaa on Tuesday, completely destroying the airport's air navigation system, the airport's spokesman Mazin Ghanim told Xinhua.

Iran denies arming the Houthis and blames the two-and-a-half-year conflict in Yemen on Riyadh. The United Nations now lists Yemen as the world's number one humanitarian crisis, with 17 million people in need of food, seven million of whom are at risk of starvation.
