Manchester United could lose Marouane Fellaini on a free in the summer

Arsenal are watching Marouane Fellaini's situation at Manchester United.

Fellaini is free to hold talks with overseas clubs as from January and could agree to join another team before the season ends.

United tabled a new two-year deal for the Belgium worldwide in September but despite Jose Mourinho making it clear he remains a vital member of his squad, Fellaini wants to move on.

Fellaini was offered a new United deal in September and so far the club have been unable to pin him down but they will not sell him in January.

United are understood to be unwilling to sell the midfielder in January so he faces the choice of running down his contact and leaving Old Trafford in the summer, or signing a new deal and remaining.

Despite his increasing importance to the side, the club have yet to make him an acceptable contract offer, meaning that he can leave on a pre-contract deal for nothing this summer if an agreement isn't reached.

European heavyweights Inter Milan and Besiktas are interested too.

Fellaini has repaid Mourinho's faith with key goals and contributions, while the United boss praised him after returning from a knee injury to feature off the bench in the 1-0 loss at Chelsea before the global break.

But Moyes successor Louis Van Gaal and Mourinho both valued him for his aerial power and ability to unsettle defences, often sending him on as a substitute to change the course of a game.

However, since then, Fellaini has become a more popular figure.
