Kashmir: Two militants killed in encounter

A gunfight has erupted between militants and forces in Lam area of Tral in southern part of Kashmir's Pulwama district.

A police spokesman said security forces had launched a cordon and search operation in Nowbug Kund village this morning after receiving specific information about the presence of militants in the area. Sensing that they were trapped, the hiding terrorists fired at the security forces, trigerring an encounter which continues.

SRINAGAR, Indian-controlled Kashmir, Nov. 14 (Xinhua) - Gunfights between militants and Indian troops broke out Tuesday in two different places in restive Indian-controlled Kashmir, police said. A policeman associated with the Special Operations Group (SOG) suffered injuries, police said.

During the fierce gun fight, a militant belonged to Hizbul Mujahideen was killed. A B.Tech passout, Ahmad was active in the region for the last three-and-a-half years, said sources.

Officials said the militants could be foreigners. "A hideout was busted and blankets were seized from the spot", said the police.

Internet services have been snapped in south Kashmir and some parts of north Kashmir due to security reasons.

An overnight cordon-and-search-operation (CASO) launched by government forces in Lam forests of Tral in south Kashmir's Pulwama district ended here on Tuesday after over twenty-hours.
