'The Crown' Season 3: Olivia Colman to Replace Star Claire Foy

'The Crown' Season 3: Olivia Colman to Replace Star Claire Foy

An older version of her character Queen Elizabeth II will be played by Hot Fuzz and The Lobster actress Olivia Colman, according to Variety.

Colman is an incredible bit of casting for many reasons, chief among them that she's likely to extend The Crown's successful run at awards season.

The Golden Globe-winning actress will replace Claire Foy, who played the role of the Queen for the first two seasons.

Before Colman takes the crown, Foy will reprise the role as Queen in the series forthcoming second season, which will hit Netflix in December 8. She won a Golden Globe earlier this year for her supporting performance in AMC's miniseries The Night Manager. She will next appear in the Kenneth Branagh-directed mystery film Murder on the Orient Express, which also stars Daisy Ridley, Penélope Cruz, Willem Dafoe, Judi Dench, Johnny Depp, Josh Gad, Derek Jacobi, Leslie Odom Jr., and Michelle Pfeiffer.

"The Crown" debuted in November, with producers fully expecting to recast the series after Season 2 to accurately reflect the Queen's age during the time period being portrayed.

We reckon the Queen is in safe hands!

In 2016 he told Variety, "What's so handsome about Claire is her youth. It's really exciting and great and incredible". "I'm just very grateful that I have had such a wonderful time playing that part and made friends for life".

The Crown recently released its season 2 trailer with Foy and co-star Matt Smith who plays Prince Philip.
