North Korea Is Threatening to Launch Missiles at Guam Again

As the United States and South Korea prepare for next week's joint naval exercise, North Korean officials yesterday renewed their threat to launch ballistic missiles near Guam, an American territory in the western Pacific.

North Korea state media said the drills have pushed Kim "closer to the "trigger" for taking the toughest countermeasure".

At the time, North Korea specifically mentioned the bombers "which get on the nerves of DPRK and threaten and blackmail it through their frequent visits to the sky above Korea".

Despite Trump's tough talk, White House chief of staff John Kelly said Thursday that North Korea's nuclear threat was "manageable" for now.

The US operates a powerful missile defense system in Guam, and the US Navy has ships that can defend against missiles, but it's unclear whether it would risk shooting down missiles bound for the ocean. USA and South Korean warplanes also will join the exercise.

On Friday, a researcher at the Institute for American Studies at the North Korean Foreign Ministry warned that the joint exercise, as well as a flight by two U.S. B-1B bombers over South Korea on Tuesday, compelled the North to "take military counteraction".

The maneuvers will take place in a time of high tension in the peninsula following the interaction of warmongering, some say, between the regime led by Kim Jong-un and Trump, who plans to visit the region between the 2nd and 14th of November. Over 60 percent said they do have confidence in "top national security and diplomatic officials" to handle the situation. The 10-day exercise will "promote communications, interoperability, and partnership in the 7th Fleet area of operations", reads a statement from the Navy's 7th Fleet.

'If US imperialists and the South Korean puppets ignite a nuclear war of aggression against us, it would only advance their own demise, ' the state-run KCNA news agency said.

Asked about North Korea on Friday, President Trump said, "We're totally prepared for numerous things", the Los Angeles Times reports.

It remains unclear whether North Korea will lash out with a weapons test during the exercise, as it often has in the past.
