Nadal books Cilic semi-final clash in Shanghai

World number one Rafael Nadal extended his winning streak to 15 matches by beating a defiant Grigor Dimitrov to reach the semi-finals of the Shanghai Masters.

The French and US Open champion took his one and only opportunity to break and that proved to be enough to eventually seal his progress in two hours and 32 minutes.

The top seed needed three sets to beat Dimitrov at the semi-final stage in Beijing last week and it was a similar story as he matched Andre Agassi's tally of 870 career wins to go joint-sixth on the Open Era list.

The Croatian, bidding to reach the season-ending ATP Finals in London, grabbed the critical break in the sixth game of the first set on his way to a comprehensive 6-3, 6-4 victory over the unseeded Spaniard.

Swiss veteran, Roger Federer will play Frenchman Richard Gasquet in another quarter-final pairing, while Argentine Juan Martin del Potro, will meet Serbian Victor Troicki.

World number five Cilic secured his place in the semi-finals with a routine victory over Spain's Albert Ramos-Vinolas.

Earlier, Marin Cilic, ranked fourth, showed the exit to the American Steve Johnson 7-6 (1), 6-4.

Dimitrov began his bid to upset Nadal in confident fashion, and it wasn't until after he had saved three break points at four games apiece that he finally conceded serve and his opponent launched a forehand victor down the line.

Ramos-Vinolas was off to a better start, with 2 easy holds and break points in each of the first 3 Marin's service games, but he failed to convert any of them.
