Kim Jong-Nam murder suspects visit airport crime scene

Indonesian Siti Aisyah, 25, and Vietnamese Doan Thi Huong, 28, were escorted to the crime scene, along with their trial judge, prosecutors and lawyers, to reenact the incident which led to the death of the half-brother of North Korean leader Kim Jong Un.

The two women accused of murdering Kim Jong Nam returned to Kuala Lumpur International Airport 2 (KLIA2) on Tuesday morning (Oct 24), surrounded by armed police as well as scores of local and international media. The eldest son of late North Korean leader Kim Jong Il, Kim Jong Nam fell out of favor with the regime after a failed attempt to visit Tokyo Disneyland in 2001 with a fake passport.

Siti Aisyah and Doan Thi Huong wore bullet proof vests, and were seen in wheelchairs at one point.

At the airport, the group was first taken to the check-in area where they allegedly smeared the nerve agent in Kim's face. They were also brought to a restaurant where Siti Aisyah was seen meeting an unidentified man, as well as the separate bathrooms where the women went to wash their hands after the attack.

According to their respective counsels, both suspects opted to use the wheelchair as they had been exhausted from wearing their bullet vests weighing 1kg each during their walk around the airport.

Pyongyang has denied any involvement in the 13 February killing, but four men - believed to be four North Koreans who fled Malaysia on the day of murder - have also been charged in the case. After the break, both suspects were pushed around in wheelchairs.

The trial in the murder of the half brother of North Korea's leader has taken a break after one of the suspects became emotional during a visit to the Malaysian airport where Kim Jong Nam was attacked.

Four other suspects still at large are accused in the charge sheet of committing the murder along with the women.

Azmi had ordered the entourage to retrace the steps taken by Jong-Nam, Siti and Doan at the airport before and after the murder, resulting in three trips within the airport terminal.

Gooi Soon Seng, Siti Aisyah's lawyer, said the visit was necessary to verify the surroundings and locations where the prosecution say the murder took place.

Their lawyers claim they are scapegoats who were tricked into carrying out the murder and a witness has testified it was possible that the other suspects on the charge sheet could have administered the VX on Kim before he arrived at the airport. Traces of VX were found on their clothes and CCTV footage was viewed at the trial that shows Huong wiping something on a person's face at the airport just days before the attack in an apparent practice run.

Chilling details have emerged during the proceedings.
