Jane Fonda Is "Ashamed" She Didn't Speak Up About Harvey Weinstein Sooner

Jane Fonda Is

With many major figures in Hollywood covering their backsides as the Harvey Weinstein sexual misconduct scandal threatens to engulf the industry and many reputations, Jane Fonda has been one of the very few to admit that she knew and stayed silent.

"He made things very hard for me for years", she said.

A series of women, including celebrities Angelina Jolie and Gwyneth Paltrow, have come forward to accuse Weinstein of sexual harassment allegations, while several actresses have alleged he raped them.

It was the actress Rosanna Arquette who came to Fonda and told her about her experience with Weinstein. The actress told the New Yorker that in the early 1990s Weinstein had tried to get her to massage him, and when she refused, he grabbed her hand and tried to place it on his crotch.

Sallie Hofmeister, a spokesperson for Weinstein, responded in a statement that all "allegations of non-consensual sex are unequivocally denied by Mr. Weinstein". She said she suspected it was because "I was old, and Harvey goes for young because that's more vulnerable".

Jane Fonda is adding her name to the list of movie stars coming forward about Harvey Weinstein.

Fonda told Amanpour that Weinstein's pattern of abuse is not an isolated phenomenon.

When questioned whether she's experienced sexual harassment in the film industry, the star admitted: 'It has happened to me, it has.

"Let's not think this is some unique, horrific [incident]". It's this male entitlement in Hollywood and everywhere in offices and businesses all over the world, in bars, in restaurants, in stores.

Fonda says the fact that Trump won the election "counteracts a lot of the good that we're doing, because a lot of men say, 'Well, our president does it, and he got elected even after people discovered that he was an abuser, so I'm just going to go ahead and do what I want to do". "You have to understand that you have control over your body. if we all talked and told, they'd be too afraid to do it".
