Harvey Weinstein sues Weinstein Company

The film producer claims The Weinstein Company has denied his lawyer's request for documents he will use to defend himself against allegations.

Hollywood producer Harvey Weinstein has taken legal action against the Weinstein Company as he wants access to his personnel file and his email account.

The New York attorney general has opened an investigation into sexual harassment and possible violations of civil rights laws at the Weinstein Company also.

The disgraced producer was sacked on October 8, after more than 40 women came forward and accused him of sexual assault.

According to Buzzfeed News, he is suing TWC because he believes they have emails that will exonerate him.

Having that information would allow him to "pursue potential claims against the Company and its Representatives or officers for mismanagement by leaking confidential Company information", the lawsuit states. The board reportedly denied his request on October 20, 2017, saying he had "failed to establish a need for the documents for a proper objective", according to BuzzFeed News. "Mr. Weinstein has further confirmed that there were never any acts of retaliation against any women for refusing his advances".

The Weinstein Co has been one of Hollywood's most influential forces since its launch in October 2005 and has produced and distributed films including "The King's Speech" and "Silver Linings Playbook".
