Buhari meets Saraki, Dogara after Aso Rock 'security screening' drama

An aide of one of the lawmakers told our correspondent that on getting to Aso Rock, the Chief Security Officer to the President insisted on a security search on each of the 20 lawmakers.

President Muhammadu Buhari has apologised to the leadership of the National Assembly over the cancellation of the planned dinner for the lawmakers in the State House. Yakubu Dogara; and other Principal Officers of the National Assembly on Thursday night angrily turned back from the Presidential Villa, otherwise known as Aso Rock, in Abuja, The Punch is reporting.

According to reports, President Buhari meant to discuss some national issues including the approved draft 2018 budget with the lawmakers at the cancelled dinner.

Buhari later reached out to them but majority of the lawmakers had left the residence of Saraki where they converged after the embarrassing encounter.

It was learnt that trouble started after the security operatives at the villa insisted that the lawmakers must alight in order to be screened.


The President was to use the opportunity of the dinner to discuss some national issues including the approved draft 2018 budget.

He said Buhari sent his Chief of Staff, Abba Kyari, to go and make peace with the lawmakers immediately he heard.

After the meeting, President Buhari apologised for the mix-up. Yemi Osinbajo; the Chief of Staff to the President, Mallam Abba Kyari; the Senior Special Assistant to the President on National Assembly (Senate), Sen.

Our source said both parties stood their ground forcing the NASS team to turn back.

Presently, they are all in Saraki's house.
