Black Man Beaten By White Men During White Supremacists in Charlottesville, Virginia

DeAndre Harris, the 20-year-old black man beaten by white supremacists in a Charlottesville parking garage in August, turned himself in to authorities Thursday after being charged with a crime in connection to the attack.

On Monday, a magistrate in Charlottesville issued a warrant charging Harris with unlawful wounding in the violence at the parking garage. The men, who are charged with malicious wounding, saw their cases postponed until December. He was served the warrant charging him with unlawful wounding.

Goodwin is the third man arrested for being in the group that left Harris with many severe injuries, including a fractured wrist, head laceration, knee injury and several abrasions and contusions on his body. In addition to Harris, three men have been charged in the attack.

Video of the incident appears to show a scuffle between the two in which Mr Harris swings a torch at a man identified by USA media as Mr Crews, who lunges at him with the pole of a Confederate flag. The police don't have sufficient probable cause to charge Harris, his lawyer said.

The magistrate only needs probable cause based on the alleged victim's testimony to grant an arrest warrant.

It happened after an alleged victim, Harold Ray Crews, went to the local magistrate's office and asked for a warrant for Harris' arrest, police said.

Mr Harris surrendered on Thursday a day after police charged a man identified as Jacob Scott Goodwin, 22, in connection with the vehicle park brawl.

Lt. Steve Upman, a spokesman for police in Charlottesville, said Goodwin is charged with malicious wounding in the August 12 beating.

Mr Harris was working as a full-time teacher's assistant in Charlottesville before the rally.

At the rally, 32-year-old Heather Heyer was killed when a auto struck a crowd of counter protesters.

White nationalist protesters returned to Charlottesville on 8 October for a brief, torch-lit rally.

At the rally, which was held to protest the planned removal of a statue of Confederate general Robert E. Lee, scores of people were injured amid fistfights and screaming matches between white supremacist groups and counterprotesters.
