Three militants killed in drone attack

Three militants killed in drone attack

Surprisingly, the announcement was not made public by the Emarat Islami Afghanistan, the official name of the Afghan Taliban, and was released by Maulana Samiul Haq, chief of his own faction of the Jamiat Ulema-i-Islam, from Akora Khattak where he runs his madressah, the report said.

A suspected USA drone strike struck a compound in a northwestern tribal region along the Afghan border on Friday, killing three suspected militants and wounding two others, an army officer and two security officials said.

Officials said three people were killed and 12 wounded in the blast on Wednesday outside the Alokozay Kabul International Cricket Ground. "He remained associated with the Haqqani network but wasn't a prominent figure", said one senior Taliban member. "This is just a propaganda of the Western media", he said.

This is the first drone attack since US President Donald Trump announced his new Afghan policy and also criticised Pakistan for providing safe havens to terrorists.

The US president unveiled his administration's new strategy in Afghanistan last month. They've been, as we know, a source of some of the significant challenges in Afghanistan, in enabling the Taliban to rest and refit, plan coordinated attacks. Pakistan has carried out several operations against militants in Kurram, but violence has persisted.

USA drone attacks inside Pakistan have become rare over the past few years.

Pakistani Prime Minister Shahid Khaqan Abbasi, however, told Reuters on Monday that such a move would be counterproductive.

In a major speech outlining U.S. policy on Afghanistan last month, Trump lambasted Pakistan for sheltering "agents of chaos" and suggested ties with Islamabad would be adjusted immediately.

The United States, under the presidency of Republican George W. Bush, and its allies invaded Afghanistan on October 7, 2001 as part of Washington's so-called war on terror.

He said these countries have an enormous stake in the stability and relative security of Afghanistan.
