"I will be attending the emergency COBRA meeting in Whitehall this afternoon with the Prime Minister", Mirror quoted London Mayor Sadiq Khan as saying.

The device is not believed to have fully detonated and it is reported that it could have been set off on a timer. Passengers described seeing a wall of fire rushing through the train vehicle.

Foreign Secretary Boris Johnson, speaking before police confirmed they were treating the incident as terrorism, said people should "keep calm and go about their normal lives" as emergency services respond.

Metropolitan Police asked "everyone to remain vigilant" and advised people to avoid the area.

Pictures taken at the scene showed a white bucket in flames containing a freezer bag on the floor of one train carriage. While some of the passengers were burnt by the explosion, others were injured in a stampede to escape.

Eyewitnesses reported seeing several people hurt and "covered in blood" after a "flash and a bang" on the District Line Tube in West London.

Humanity has yet again come under attackAnd people are having none of itBut London will never be defeatedPrayers and thoughts are with everyone affected What do these people gain?

Police report several people suffered severe burns after flames swept through the auto, but their injuries did not appear to be life-threatening.

Britain's official threat level stands at "severe", the second-highest rung on a five-point scale, meaning an attack is highly likely.

Almost two hours after the first reports of the explosion, authorities said they were treating the incident as a terrorist attack.

US President Donald Trump blasted "loser terrorists" behind the latest attack as "sick and demented people" and blamed the internet as the perpetrators' main recruitment tool.
