Lakers and Clippers unveil Nike's NBA Statement Edition uniforms in Los Angeles

"The color black is a nod to the historic turning point in the 2016 NBA Finals when the Cavs wore their black-sleeved uniforms in Games 5 and 7 of the NBA Finals on their way to winning their first NBA Championship and Cleveland's first major sports title in 52 years".

The "Statement" jersey is inspired by each squad's decision to "make bold statements" with their designs. On Friday night, Nike revealed all of them in one big show.

"Our Nike uniforms set a new standard for connecting our most passionate fans with their favorite NBA teams and players", said Adam Silver, NBA Commissioner. Here's how Nike describers it in their press release.

At the event, Nike had a representative player from every team come out in a hoodie to hide the new jerseys. Additionally, other exclusive offers and experiences will be unveiled throughout the season.

According to Darren Rovell of ESPN, registered NikePlus users who have downloaded the Android or iOS app to their phones and also purchased any new Nike NBA jersey can utilize the new program. The $110 "Swingman" replica uniforms and the $200 authentic jerseys will both work with the NikeConnect app when they are both launched on September 29th.

Instead of always wearing the white uniform, home teams this season will get to choose which of their jerseys they wear for a given game.
