Kaspersky Lab rejects claims of Russian influence

According to Kaspersky, the firm has over 400 million users around the globe.

Kaspersky said in a statement that it was disappointed by the directive and insisted "it does not have unethical ties or affiliations with any government, including Russian Federation".

Kaspersky Lab stated that they were disappointed by the decision from the USA government and deny any ties whatsoever to the Russian government or intelligence agencies.

The Department of Homeland Security ordered federal agencies to stop using Kaspersky-made software Wednesday.

The Trump administration yesterday told USA government agencies to remove Kaspersky Lab products from their networks, saying it was concerned the Moscow-based cyber security firm was vulnerable to Kremlin influence and that using its anti-virus software could jeopardize national security.

Kaspersky cited "geopolitical turbulence" as the likely reason why U.S. Homeland Security banned his company's products from federal IT systems.

"No credible evidence has been presented publicly by anyone or any organisation as the accusations are based on false allegations and inaccurate assumptions, including the claims about Russian regulations and policies impacting the company", he said. "We don't have any secrets, we don't do anything bad against our customers and against governments".

Kaspersky Lab has repeatedly denied that it has ties to the Kremlin. "While I don't have insight into the dealings of the Russian government and Kaspersky, we've seen in the news over the last few years that U.S. companies regularly cooperate with United States intelligence agencies ... why would we think that this isn't happening in other countries too?" "Applaud DHS for heeding my call to remove all Kaspersky products from fed agencies".

Bloomberg suggested that the tools not only deflected cyber-attacks, but also captured information about the hackers launching them, to pass on to Russian intelligence services.

Best Buy pulled Kaspersky software products from its shelves in the last several weeks.

Kaspersky Lab did not immediately respond when asked if its chief executive would attend.

The Science oversight subcommittee hearing will be held on September 27, following next week's House recess.

Nonetheless, Congress is considering legislation that would implement a government-wide ban on Kaspersky products.

Minnesota Sen. Amy Klobuchar, the ranking Democrat on the Senate Rules Committee, sent a letter to Duke asking the department for information about the government's use of Kaspersky products, especially on critical infrastructure and election systems.
