First Batch of Iranian Aid Sent to Rohingya Muslims

The refugees are fleeing a fresh security operation in which they have said security forces and Buddhist mobs have killed men, women and children, looted homes and torched Rohingya villages.

What do refugees and civilians say?: According to BBC, Rohingyas who have fled the area said they've been "maimed by landmines".

India this week sent 53 tonnes of relief materials to Bangladesh for Rohingyas fleeing Myanmar.

The Security Council has not agreed on a Burma statement since 2008 when the country was in a transition to democracy, mainly because of neighbouring China's support for the government and its military.

Myanmar's government is being condemned globally for its military's disproportionate response to Rohingya insurgent attacks on security guards on August 25.

Some 370,000 Rohingya civilians have fled across the border to Bangladesh, according to the United Nations, whose rights chief, Zeid Ra'ad Al Hussein, described the actions by Myanmar's armed forces as "ethnic cleansing".

The UN has appealed to the global community to keep aside politics and support the ongoing humanitarian efforts to help Rohingya Muslim refugees from Myanmar.


The actions of Myanmar's armed forces are believed to have intensified following the recent attacks, and United Nations human rights chief Zeid Ra'ad Al Hussein described them Monday as a "textbook example of ethnic cleansing".

Persecution of the Rohingya, reviled as illegal immigrants by the majority Buddhist population in Myanmar, has caused much anger in Malaysia and across the Muslim world.

Asked if the ongoing aid flow for the displaced Myanmar nationals was adequate Abdiker said "not yet" describing the need as "massive".

A Rohingya man who fled his home village in Maungdaw township described finding his friend dead after a morning attack by the Myanmar military.

His telephone call to State Counsellor Aung San Suu Kyi comes after online petitions signed by 10,000 Canadians, collected in just five days, urged Trudeau to act and to revoke Suu Kyi's honorary Canadian citizenship.

Myanmar alone can't do anything to stop the plight faced by the Rohingya community there, as it is a problem that has gone on for centuries, says Sarawak Deputy Chief Minister James Masing. "1st consignment of #Indian humanitarian assistance of 53 MT for #Bangladeshi arrives under Operation #Insaniyat @SushmaSwaraj", it said.

Earlier, the government had said it can not allow security situation of the country to suffer for the sake of allowing illegal immigrants on regional and religious considerations.
