After the war, Kristal moved to Israel with his second wife, Batsheva, with whom he had a further two children.

Israel Kristal was certified a year ago by Guinness World Records as the world's oldest living man.

Kristal's more-than-a-century of life were marked by tragedy. Usually in Jewish faith, when Jewish boys become 13 years old, they become accountable for their actions and become a bar mitzvah.

Yisrael Kristal, who died Friday, was born in Zarnow, Poland in 1903.

The world's oldest man who survived the Holocaust, Israel Kristal, has died in Israel, aged 113, according to local news reports.

Krista was supposed to celebrate his bar mitzvah in 1916 but could not due to the battles of the First World War, which reached his hometown in Poland.

Kristal, who resided in the northern Israeli city of Haifa, was born in on September 15, 1903, in the Polish village of Zarnow.

For his 113th birthday past year, Kristal celebrated with an official bar mitzvah ceremony, which he had never received at the traditional age of thirteen. His first wife and two children were killed in the Holocaust.

"My father is religious and has prayed every morning for 100 years, but he has never had his bar mitzvah", his daughter Shula Koperstoch told the AFP news agency last year. "All that is left for us to do is to keep on working as hard as we can and rebuild what is lost".

The world's oldest person is 117-year-old Violet-Mosse Brown of Jamaica.

Jeanne Calment, a French woman, had the longest confirmed human lifespan, according to Guiness.
