Why white nationalists are misappropriating Red Wings logo

According to Detroit's Fox2 website, a Michigan-based white nationalist group - called the Detroit Right Wings - uses the National Hockey League team's logo.

- andrew kaczynski (@KFILE) August 12, 2017The Nazis basically Nazi-fied the Red Wings logo.

Multiple white nationalists carrying tiki torches were at the University of Virginia for the rally that continued on Saturday morning. That thing inside the wheel is an SS pattern.

The Detroit Right Wings are part of the Identitarian movement, which began in Europe but has spread across the Atlantic Ocean in recent years. You'll see some of these logos have a passing-at-best resemblance to the Detroit Red Wings logo, but one imagines it's a bit easier to get a magnetic Red Wings logo for your poster-board Dungeons and Dragons shield than something from 1937 Germany.

The Red Wings went on to state they are "exploring every possible legal action as it pertains to the misuse of our logo in this disturbing demonstration". "We will take immediate and all necessary steps to insure the use is discontinued as promptly as possible, and will vigorously pursue other remedies, as appropriate".

With a state of emergency declared in Virginia amid violent protests by white nationalists in Charlottesville, the Detroit Red Wings said Saturday that their logo, displayed on some protesters' placards, has no place at the "Unite the Right" rally.
