Handsome header from Olivier Giroud ensured the Gunners beat Leicester City in a thrilling start to the 2017-18 Premier League season.

The new Premier League season began on a Friday, for the first time, with Arsenal hosting Leicester City.

Olivier Giroud came off the bench to head a late victor after Aaron Ramsey had brought Arsenal level at 3-3 following a Jamie Vardy double for the visitors. This game will have more of a competitive edge than the usual curtain raiser, but we can expect Arsene Wenger's side to be up for it. "We have top quality".

Arsene Wenger would respond by sending on by sending on Olivier Giroud and Aaron Ramsey, and that proved to be an inspired decision.

The Premier League returns with Arsenal hosting Leicester City at the Emirates Stadium.

Wenger, who signed a new two-year deal at the club, insists the victory at Wembley has strengthened the confidence in his squad but has warned against complacency when they take on Leicester after a number of opening day set-backs in recent seasons.

Lacazette, a £52m signing from Lyon, showed wonderful poise, technique and power to divert Mohamed Elneny's cross past Kasper Schmeichel with his head.

An example of this came in the 19th minute when he held off Harry Maguire, turned him and sped away - forcing the Leicester defender to pull him down. Is he going to do the job of Shinji Okazaki?

"You're never too sure what you're going to get with Arsenal but they looked good against Chelsea in the Community Shield, despite being without Alexis Sanchez and Mesut Ozil", Paul Merson told SkySports.

Jamie Vardy then capitalised on terrible defending to twice put the Foxes ahead either side of Danny Welbeck's equaliser before Arsene Wenger sent on the cavalry.

The north London side were level on the stroke of half-time thanks to Danny Welbeck's finish to give Arsenal a platform to kick on and win the top-flight clash.

The way they ruthlessly pounced on Arsenal mistakes was highlighted by their second via a Albrighton cross for Vardy to tap home at the back post.

The ensuing reshuffle left Arsenal with a winger - Oxlade-Chamberlain - at right-back, a right-back - Bellerin - at left-back and two left-backs - Kolasinac and Nacho Monreal - in central defence.

Ramsey was the scorer, courtesy of a superb finish after an even better pass from Xhaka.
