Fresh appeal for witnesses as London police seek jogger

The bus, which was travelling across Putney Bridge, swerved to narrowly miss the 33-year-old victim.

Police have not named the person they arrested, but lawyers for a man named Eric Bellquist came forward on Friday to say his client had "irrefutable proof" that he was in the United States at the time.

British police on Thursday said they had arrested a 41-year-old jogger on suspicion of knocking a woman into the path of a bus on a busy west London street earlier this year.

On Friday, Eric Bellquist released a statement through his lawyers saying he had "irrefutable proof" he was in the U.S. at the time.

CCTV of the incident on 5 May that has been viewed thousands of times across the world shows a male jogger shove a woman into the path of a bus on Putney Bridge.

The bus stopped and passengers tended to the woman following the incident at about 7.40am on May 5.

London police said the arrest resulted from a "good response" from the public after seeing the security cam video.

"The victim was put in extreme danger when she was knocked into the road". Mat Knowles, the investigating officer from the Putney Safer Neighborhood Team, said in a statement.

Footage shows the jogger return around 15 minutes later, but he does not stop or acknowledge the woman.

A Met Police statement said: "Following enquiries, he has now been eliminated from the investigation". Police have renewed their appeal for witnesses, saying their "inquiries continue".

He was wearing a light grey t-shirt and dark blue shorts.
